Needle valves

Needle valve to regulate flow rates precisely

Needle valves are being used in industrial settings, whenever a liquid or gaseous medium needs to be regulated precisely, or when the flow rate needs to be metered. Due to its unique construction, the needle valve is the ideal tool for such precise regulation.

How the needle-valve works

The body of the needlevalve is similar to the ball valve with thread connections. However, there is now a rotatable ball to direct the medium. Instead, a spindle, usually made of stainless steel with a conical shape towards the lower end does this. Within the body, behind the thread connection at the lower part of the entrance there is a reduced notch that reaches approximately up to the middle of the needle valve, in a horizontal direction. From the center of the needle valve on, the notch (still heavily reduced in diameter) changes its direction and becomes vertical. So if the handle of the valve moves, the conical shape of the spindle slowly seals the vertical notch. The conical shape of the spindle thus allows the precise regulation of the flow rate.
