Biogas

A biogas plant produces energy in the form of flammable gas by fermenting biomass (such as maze, manure or organic waste). This flammable gas is usually called biogas. Ever since Fukushima, renewable energies have come into focus. In 2013, renewable energies produced 152,5 billion kWh of electricity. This equals 7,6% of the German power consumption.

But how can biogas be transformed into utilizable energy? In order to derive heat or electricity, the biogas needs to be transported to a thermal power station. To ensure a safe and reliable transportation process, control valves such as ball valves or butterfly valves are required. Biogas contains acids, such as sulfuric acid, which can damage seals or control valves easily. Thus, high-quality materials are required. Ball valves and butterfly valves from NieRuf come with a high-quality PTFE (polytetrafluoroethylene) packing. As opposed to a FPM packing, a PTFE packing is completely resistant to acids, which makes it ideal for implementation within biogas plants.

To guarantee the highest quality and reliability, the DVGW (German Association for Gas and Water) developed specific biogas permissions for ball valves and butterfly valves.
